Flu & Vaginal Infection? Pregnancy? Or could it be much more serious?
Be forewarned that I would love to go to the doctor but I have no insurance and I can’t afford to go. I really wish that I could go but I honestly can’t. I don’t need another person telling me to go to the doctor – So please just tell me if you have any idea of what this could POSSIBLY be:
Today I had watery, bright red discharge, with a fishy odor. My period is late, and I’ve been having horrible flu like symptoms for the past week that come and go with no warning. I would think that I’m pregnant except the only time I had unprotected sex was yesterday and it wouldn’t have taken effect so quickly as to give my those symptoms the next day…
There is more to the story. I’ve had weird related symptoms for over a month. I’ll write them in case you think it will help you with any ideas of what it could possibly be:
Starting about 6 weeks ago:
- Symptoms of pregnancy
- Period was late.
- Pregnancy test and it was NEGATIVE
- Later that week I got a very heavy period.
5 weeks ago:
- I had a lot of brown discharge with a bad fishy odor
- It went away and came back after sex when it got really bad again, but again it only lasted a couple of days.
- My husband researched it and thought it was a bacteria infection
- My mother thought it could have been a miscarriage (even though the pregnancy test came back negative a few weeks earlier)
The past 2 weeks:
- I’ve had nausea, diarrhea, weak spells, and today dizziness was added to it. These symptoms come and go every few days (so bad that I have to leave work).
- The fishy odor only comes back very strongly after sex. The brown color is gone though.
Today:
- Flu like symptoms as described above
- Watery, slight color of bright red, bad smelling discharge
Please help if you have any ideas at all… Thank you!

sounds like a bacterial infection to me (the fishy smell..usually present after or during sex), but you have gone SO long with out treatment it may have gotten worse. not having insurance is no excuse to seek treatment… there are government agencies and free clinics in most towns/cities that waive fees or are of little cost ($10 on Wednesdays in my city clinic) if this is the case,, but you and your husband need to be treated at the same time otherwise you both may reinfect one another.
