Abnormal vaginal discharge, what could it be?
I’ve had abnormal discharge for a couple weeks now, and something new just happened which changed my mind about what I thought it could be so I’m calling to make a doctor’s appointment in the morning. I just wanted to know what I should be ready to hear. :/
At first, I was having thinner (and less) discharge with tiny white clumps in it. Thinking it was a yeast infection, despite lack of odor and itching, I waited for my period to clear it up (since the acidic environment apparently kills yeast infections). I thought it was over.
About a week after my period ended, it happened again. I thought maybe I had reinfected myself because yeast can live on underwear even after it’s been through the washer. I was going to wait for my period again and boil my underwear to kill the yeast. It’s been almost 3 weeks.
However, in the past couple of days I noticed that my discharge has taken on a very pale (almost undetectable) green tint. Knowing that green is a BAD sign, I got worried. Also, I’ve started to have very mild and dull pain in my lower abdomen. Considering the timing, I think it could be premenstrual cramps, but I didn’t want to rule it out completely.
I have been sexually active for 2 years, and have only had 2 partners. I’ve always used a condom. The first symptoms arose about 2 weeks after having sex with the person I’ve been with for the past year. This is the first occurrence of anything strange down there, so I hesitate to believe it is an STD. However, I am afraid of my parents finding out that I’ve had sex and am afraid that the diagnosis will give me away.
I’ve considered yeast infection and bacterial vaginosis. Is there another diagnosis I should be prepared to hear?
Thank you everyone for your answers! Great advice about ironing, and the anecdote about a piece of tampon that caused an infection.
As it turns out, I had my appointment today and the doctor said things were normal and my body was dealing with the fact that I’m having way less sex than usual, and things don’t get flushed out the same way anymore. She saw the clumps but was unconcerned, saying that they may very well indeed be yeast but it’s within normal levels. She did a pap smear anyway and results come in a week.
Again, thank you for your answers!
